The Making Of A Motorcyclist eBook Gordon Bunker
I enjoyed this book very much but kept wanting more. I wanted to read more about the ride on the road, more about the places and food along the way. More about the weather, breakdowns, the good days with open roads. Now try and understand, all this that I wanted more of was there but it seemed too compressed or brief. I would read about going down such and such highway or this or that happened and the story would move on too soon. I felt almost as if it was rushed but to be fair the author may have felt to try and extend the chapter may invite boredom, I'm just not sure.Like I said, I enjoyed this book a lot and recommend it very much. I think with a bit more material (not filler) it would have been a great book for me.
Enough now with the negativity, the story here is of a lot of guys dream to get that first bike (or car) and the freedom that comes with it and that's exactly what happens here after the authors neighbour gets a Harley when he was young. Continuing on, the author finally saves enough for that first bike and away we go. A steep learning curve and freindships develope as he improves his abilities and moves up in models and condition of his rides. We are treated to his accounts of travels short and long with sunny vistas, rain, and snow. I personally liked to read about the "Mom & Pop" resturants he visited and the food he described. Also the best I can relate to was the end of the day ride where the bike is parked and it's time for R & R.
Hope another book is coming from this author.

The Making Of A Motorcyclist eBook Gordon Bunker Reviews
The book should be enjoyable for anyone with a heart for bikes or travel. I had a couple days off and enjoyed being shamed back to the "Bucket List" road trip I promised my self 40+ years ago, to do the big Ironman route at a leisurely pace. I still have 7 bikes left in the shed. You never know, the wife might find a motorcycle gone and a note on the kitchen table this year. See you when I get back home, Honey!
Bunker turns a good phrase and has a sense of humor, but many of the stories don't seem to get much beyond the surface considering the miles they cover. Sometimes the book reads like a sales brochure for BMW while dissing or ignoring the vast majority of America's motorcyclists who choose for whatever reason to ride Harleys.
I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Bunker's writing style and the ease with which he engages the reader. He has a rare talent seen these days. This book was thoroughly uplifting and a genuine reflection of his love of riding and the open road. The book made me want to ignore that it is presently 24 degrees outside and suit up, plug in my electric vest and ride if for no other reason than to find a diner!
I have been reading motorcycle books lately. This one is written from the rider`s point of view, but contains great insight on various motorcycle brands. Light humor throughout. Was pleasantly surprised when he have a great review of the Hotel Julien, which is in my hometown of Dubuque, and is a couple blocks from my office.
This was a very enjoyable read. As a life long biker I can relate to much of this book and loved reading about those experiences through someone else's eyes.
I chose this book at first to help pass away a long lunch time at work,as I commute and do not get home during the day. However, I quickly found myself looking forward to lunch so I could learn of Gordon's next adventure. I've been riding more than 30 years, and I could relate to his experiences on so many levels. At times, I laughed out loud, other times I struggled to hold back tears. He has echoed so many of my life experiences, and I thank him for telling his story. I am currently on bike number 8, ridden many tens of thousands of miles, and , like Gordon, am still filled with passion and awe whenever I throw my leg over the saddle. Thanks for such an entertaining, and touching, read!
I have been to many of the places and experiences written here but, I never absorbed the feelings Gordon Bunker made surface reading them. A real riders book but the writing skill and web he builds will please just about any one. I know I'm going to read it again and again as I plan to re experience some of these rides again but on a more modest ride than the first time. At 68 you made my heart jump reliving hwy 550, 191,..... now I may take the time to stop at the Mom and Pop places along the way. Thank for a great book.
